Albouystown residents urged to access training, business support and government services

─Concrete allyway to be constructed to complement concrete roads

Residents of Albouystown and surrounding communities were urged to make use of government training programmes, business support and other services to improve their livelihoods.

The call came during a ministerial walkthrough in the community on Wednesday afternoon, where residents raised concerns and discussed opportunities.

Minister of Labour and Manpower Planning, Keoma Griffith encouraged residents to pursue skills training and further education to prepare for employment in Guyana’s growing economy.

“The best way to do that is to get a skill, get upskilled, position yourself,” he said.

He pointed to investments in schools, roads and public services.

Minister Griffith said residents should consider how they could benefit from the changes taking place across the country.

He encouraged persons to apply for financing through the Guyana Development Bank to support their business ventures.

Meanwhile, Minister within the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, Steven Jacobs, said training programmes were already helping young people in Albouystown develop income-earning skills.

One significant example of this is the partnership which involved the ministry and a salon known as Boss Lady, which trained 150 young people from the community.

“We want to encourage businesses to grow, encourage young people to get involved in constructive things that can actually help them,” Jacobs said.

He further urged young residents to contact ministries, learn about available programmes and take steps to participate.

The minister turned his attention to infrastructural development happening within the community.

This includes the recently paved streets and lit boulevard, which he said, provided space for families to relax and spend time together.

Further improvements, he announced will include the construction of concrete alleyways to complement the community’s paved roads.

Additionally, Minister within the Ministry of Housing, Vanessa Benn underscored the importance of the visit, noting that it gives residents direct access to government representatives and an opportunity to discuss issues affecting their neighbourhood.

She also highlighted the government’s efforts to enhance the community’s environment to improve the daily livelihood of residents.

“We as a government are working tirelessly so that the conditions, the environment for every community is improved,” Minister Benn said.

Members from the various ministries were present to address concerns residents may have particularly in the housing sector.
