Egypt Confirms Vast Support to Mali

(MENAFN) Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has assured Mali of comprehensive technical, logistical, and institutional backing to assist the country in regaining peace and stability.

Mali, situated in West Africa, has grappled with persistent jihadist unrest since 2012, sparked by insurgent Tuareg groups and their Islamist allies launching frequent assaults in the northern regions.

During a meeting held on Thursday, Cairo’s top diplomat, Badr Abdelatty, revealed this commitment in discussions with Malian President Assimi Goita.

The dialogue focused on reinforcing cooperation in multiple sectors, including education, healthcare, and the fight against radical ideology.

According to a formal statement from Abdelatty’s office, “The Foreign Minister affirmed that more than 100 Malian officials and cadres have benefited this year from training courses provided by the Egyptian government, in addition to specialized workshops and programs.”

This highlights Egypt’s ongoing role in capacity-building efforts within Mali.

The minister’s stop in Mali formed part of a broader West African diplomatic and economic mission, accompanied by representatives from 30 Egyptian businesses.

These business forums, organized by the foreign ministry, aimed to enhance commercial ties and stimulate mutual economic engagement in the region.

Prior to his arrival in Mali, Abdelatty completed a visit to Nigeria, where he participated in the Egyptian-Nigerian Business Forum in Abuja.

His second leg took him to Burkina Faso on Tuesday, where he held talks with President Ibrahim Traore and other high-ranking officials.

As stated by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, Abdelatty reaffirmed “Egypt’s full support for Burkina Faso’s efforts to combat terrorism and respect its sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
