US Official Calls on Musk to Enable Free Starlink in Iran

(MENAFN) Richard Grenell, the US Presidential Envoy for Special Assignments, has appealed to SpaceX founder Elon Musk to activate complimentary Starlink internet service across Iran, aiming to allow his “friends” there continued “access to information.”

This request came shortly after US President Donald Trump disclosed that American forces had executed a synchronized operation involving missile strikes and aerial assaults against three Iranian nuclear sites.

The offensive followed Israel’s earlier military action on Iranian territory roughly a week prior.

Posting on platform X, Grenell—who also once served as the acting Director of National Intelligence—stated: “Can you turn on Starlink for free in Iran for the next few weeks, @elonmusk? My friends inside Iran don’t have regular access to information right now. I’ll chip in a donation and I think others would, too.”

His message underscores concerns that Iranian citizens may currently face restricted access to online resources.

As of now, Musk has not issued any public reply to Grenell’s suggestion.

Previously, the tech magnate mentioned that “the beams are on,” implying that the Starlink signal is technically operational in the region.

However, using the service necessitates a designated satellite dish capable of sending and receiving signals, which may limit its immediate availability.
