Arab League Criticizes Israeli Strikes on Iran
They appealed for both regional and international initiatives to prevent a further worsening of the situation and to pursue a full cease-fire.
Foreign ministers from the Arab League gathered in Istanbul to deliberate on recent events concerning unrest in the Middle East, with particular focus on Israel’s offensive actions against Iran that commenced on June 13.
The ministers are in the Turkish city to participate in the 51st gathering of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers, scheduled for June 21–22.
A final communique issued after the emergency session declared that the Israeli offensive was “a blatant violation of the sovereignty of a UN member state and a threat to regional peace and security.”
It urged the UN Security Council to take immediate action and fulfill its duties to end the escalation, warning that inaction could drive the region into deeper chaos.
The ministers advocated for renewed talks concerning Iran’s nuclear agenda and showed support for diplomatic paths to reduce hostilities.
The statement connected the recent violence to Israel’s military campaign in the Gaza Strip, demanding a stop to the operations, sustained and unhindered humanitarian assistance, and an end to unlawful Israeli measures in the occupied West Bank.
The ministers cautioned that Israel’s actions are bringing the region closer to a broader war.
